At Calgary Economic Development, we work with business, government and community partners to position Calgary as the location of choice for the purpose of attracting business investment, fostering trade and growing Calgary’s workforce.

Calgarians are creators, storytellers and innovators. From film and TV to interactive digital media, Calgary has the crews, talent and venues for any creative endeavour.

As the country’s fourth largest film jurisdiction, Calgary, Alberta is the place to bring your production to life. With the unique landscape of the Rockies, Prairies and Badlands at the doorstep of a thriving, inclusive and safe urban municipality, Calgary offers an unparalleled variety of locations. Backed by world-class crews, competitive incentives, and the purpose-built Calgary Film Centre, it’s no wonder Calgary continues to draw award-winning productions from around the globe.

Calgary Economic Development’s Film Commission office in collaboration with local scouts facilitate tours of Calgary region locations for producers, filmmakers and location managers considering the area as a filming location. In addition, the office provides a one-window access for all City of Calgary location permits.

The Calgary Film Centre is conveniently located 25 minutes from the Calgary airport and 20 minutes from downtown, the facility has 50,000 square feet of purpose-built studios and 25,000 square feet of multipurpose warehouse and workshop spaces, complemented by anchor tenant William F. White International.

With a strong focus on gaming, immersive technologies, e-learning and digital media, Calgary’s Interactive Digital Media sector is experiencing rapid growth. Digital transformation is quickly becoming the largest driver of new solutions and technology investments among Calgary businesses. It’s projected that Calgary’s creative industries sector will spend $1 billion on digital transformation from 2019 to 2022, and virtual and augmented reality, AI systems and machine learning have been identified as key engines of growth.
