Host, Creator and Executive Producer, For the Culture with Amanda Parris, and Creator, Executive Producer and Showrunner, Revenge of the Black Best Friend
Amanda Parris is an award winning writer, producer and TV host. She was the host of the award-winning series, CBC ARTS: EXHIBITIONISTS which travelled across the country telling stories about Canadian artists across all mediums. For her final season, Amanda was awarded the Canadian Screen Award for Best Host. Amanda is also the creator of the popular and groundbreaking R&B radio show MARVINS ROOM on CBC Music which she hosted for six years. Over the past decade she has also hosted the shows SHORT FILM FACE OFF, THE FILMMAKERS and FROM THE VAULTS. Over the years Amanda has become a much sought after interviewer, known for her compelling long-form conversations with some of the most innovative cultural leaders of our time including Spike Lee, Issa Rae, Sage Paul, Roxane Gay, Wesley Morris, Halle Berry, Moshe Safdie, Esi Edugyan, Mahershala Ali, Mina Shum, Lena Waithe, Philip Akin, and Samantha Bee.
Beyond hosting, Amanda is an award-winning writer and producer. Her play OTHER SIDE OF THE GAME was awarded the Governor General Literary Award for Drama. Amanda’s short play The Death News won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Writing, Web Program or Series. Amanda is the creator, executive producer and showrunner of the critically acclaimed comedy series REVENGE OF THE BLACK BEST FRIEND which won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Web Program or Series, Fiction and is now streaming on CBC Gem. Last year, Amanda received the inaugural Changemaker Award from the Canadian Screen Awards and earlier this year, she was awarded the ACTRA Sandi Ross Award for her efforts to call out systemic racism in the Canadian media community.
