DAVID KINES – MULTI-PLATFORM MEDIA EXECUTIVE
David Kines is the President and co-founder of Hollywood Suite, an independent Canadian broadcaster of four movie channels: 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s Movies. He also sits on the Board of Directors.
A 40+ year veteran of the Canadian television, new media and live event industry, David started his media career as a child operating the family slide projector, eventually graduating to the 8mm & 16mm projectors.
David moved on from projectors in 1983, starting at Citytv as an editor for The NewMusic, the world’s longest-running music television magazine program. He helped launch Canada’s first music video channel MuchMusic in 1984 and welcomed progressive challenges as Coordinating Producer, Director of Music Operations and Program Manager, Vice-President and Senior Vice-President in subsequent years. He played an integral role in the launch of Much sister station MuchMoreMusic in 1998, and oversaw the build and launch of MuchMusic affiliates in Argentina, Finland and the United States.
While at Much, David oversaw thousands of hours of original live production, including coverage of massive events such as MuchMusic Video Awards, Live@Much, Intimate & Interactive, Woodstock ’94 & ’99, the Nelson Mandela and Queen tribute concerts, Live Earth.
David left MuchMusic & MTV in 2008, and hung out his media production Executive and Consultant shingle. Projects include the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala, Canada Day from Parliament Hill prime-time specials (CBC and SRC), Alberta Flood Aid (2013), the Gemini Awards (Global/Shaw Media), CFL Season Kick-off and Thursday Night Football Half-time shows, and Executive Producer of entertainment for Molson Canadian Hockey House at the 2010 Olympics.
David sits on the Board of Directors of Kids Help Phone and the advisory committee for the music education charity MusiCounts.
