MINA SHUM most recently sold the pitch, THIS IS ALWAYS, based on the Japanese TV series “Pure Soul” to Amazon with Daniel Dae Kim’s 3AD attached to produce. She previously wrote and directed five award-winning feature films which all had World Premieres at TIFF, and two films with US premieres at Sundance. Mina’s first feature DOUBLE HAPPINESS won Best First Feature at the Berlin Film Festival and the Audience Award at the Torino Film Festival. Her most recent film, MEDITATION PARK premiered at TIFF and won the Tiff Film Circuit’s People Choice Award, as well as the San Francisco Asian American Festival’s Audience Award.
Mina’s work also includes art installations, essays, lectures and short films, and she has also directed episodic television in all lengths for a variety of streamers and networks including ABC, Netflix, Nickelodeon, W and MTV/Logo. Most recently, Shum was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Fine Arts from Simon Fraser University, “for advancing diversity in the arts and for unifying communities by artfully revealing the universal truths that connect us all.”
